Stories are the most powerful gift you can share with a child. But sadly, only one in three children are read a story every day. We want to change that.

Welcome to Dads Make Stories Magic, a campaign to get the nation reading together this summer from children’s reading charity BookTrust and children’s book publishers Farshore and HarperCollins Children’s Books.

Pledge today to read with the children in your life over the next four weeks and see the magical results.

Together we can reach one million minutes of storytime.

Getting Started

Get started on your storytime journey with tips from our ambassadors. It doesn’t matter how you read a story, where you read a story or what story you choose. And we’re here to help you on the way.

Your Stories

Discover stories from dads across the UK whose lives have been transformed by reading with their children more regularly.

‘She’s asking for books’
‘Can books do that?’
‘The dad bond is through books.’
‘We’re going to be reading lots.’

‘It was really lovely playing games based around the book we have been enjoying together . . . It was something we could do together based off our shared experience.’

Research

Sharing stories transforms lives.

Research shows that reading for pleasure improves a child’s life chances, they feel happier and healthier, are more creative and do better at school.

But reading for pleasure is in long-term decline, with only one in four children reading for pleasure every day or nearly every day.

We’re on a mission to reverse this. One of the best ways to inspire children is to read with them regularly. But sadly, only one in three children are read to every day and new research shows that dads in particular are missing out on storytime.
